What You Will See in Your PTE Core Result
The online Scores Overview begins with five main results:
| Result | What the score reflects |
|---|---|
| Overall score | Performance across the complete test, including both single-skill and integrated tasks |
| Listening | Understanding main ideas and details, following spoken information, and accurately reproducing what you hear |
| Reading | Understanding meaning, vocabulary in context, grammar, and connections between sentences and paragraphs |
| Speaking | Pronunciation, oral fluency, accuracy, relevance, and the ability to respond clearly within the time limit |
| Writing | Grammar, vocabulary, spelling, organization, relevance, and the ability to produce complete written responses |
The overall score reflects your performance across the entire exam. It is not calculated by averaging your Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing scores. Integrated questions can assess and contribute to more than one skill.
Each score is reported on a scale from 10 to 90.

The Score Report Code, also called the SRC, appears near the top of the document. It is unique to that particular test result.
If you take PTE Core more than once, each attempt receives a different Score Report Code.
Understanding the PTE Core Skills Profile
Below the main scores, the online report provides a Skills Profile with eight performance categories.

| Skills Profile category | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Open Response Speaking and Writing | Producing original spoken or written answers |
| Reproducing Spoken and Written Language | Repeating or reproducing information accurately |
| Extended Writing | Producing longer written responses |
| Short Writing | Producing brief written responses |
| Extended Speaking | Producing longer spoken responses |
| Short Speaking | Producing brief spoken responses |
| Multiple-skills Comprehension | Completing tasks that combine two or more skills |
| Single-skill Comprehension | Completing tasks focused mainly on one skill |
The bar beside each category indicates your relative performance. A fuller bar represents stronger performance in that area.

You can also select the arrow beside a category to see personalized recommendations. These recommendations are based on your performance and can help you decide what to practice before retaking the exam.
Do not focus only on your lowest communicative skills score. Open the related Skills Profile categories to identify the type of response causing difficulty.
For example:
- A low Short Speaking result may indicate difficulty with brief spoken tasks, such as Repeat Sentence.
- A low Reproducing Spoken and Written Language result may indicate problems accurately repeating or writing information like Read Aloud, Listening: Fill in the Blanks, and Write from Dictation.
- A low Multiple-skills Comprehension result may show difficulty combining listening or reading with another skill. Relevant integrated question examples are Answer Short Question for listening and speaking; and Summarize Written Text for reading and writing.
The Skills Profile is intended to guide preparation. Your official immigration result is still based on the four communicative skills scores.
How Long Is a PTE Core Result Valid?
A PTE Core Score Report is valid for two years from the date you took the test. The test date and valid-until date are shown on the PDF report.
For Canadian immigration, make sure your results remain valid at the required stage of your application. IRCC states that Express Entry language results must be less than two years old when you submit the relevant application.
Do not confuse the following dates:
| Date | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Test date | The day you completed PTE Core |
| Issue date | The day Pearson released the Score Report |
| Valid-until date | Two years after the test date |
The validity period begins from the test date, not the result issue date.
Check Your CLB Level and Plan Your Next Step
Once your PTE Core result is available, compare each individual skill score with the current PTE Core-to-CLB conversion table. Do not rely only on the overall score.
When all four scores meet the requirement for your immigration program, save your Score Report Code and follow the IRCC application instructions. When one or more skills fall below your target, use the online Skills Profile to identify the areas that require improvement.
Before booking another attempt, complete targeted PTE Core practice and a timed PTE Core mock test. Review why each answer was correct or incorrect so that your preparation addresses the specific weaknesses shown in your result.
